High on Sparta Mountain, at the head waters of the Weldon Brook, sits the coldest spot in Jefferson Township. At around 1,300 feet above sea level, this swampy area is consistently 5 to 10 degrees cooler then the valleys of the township, earning it the nickname of Jefferson's ice box. The placid icy waters of this unnamed swamp, reflects the surrounding bare trees, waiting for a spring thaw to fully arrive. (PHOTO - ANTHONY LAWSON)
