Caption: High on Sparta Mountain, at the head waters of the Weldon Brook, sits the coldest spot in Jefferson Township. At around 1,300 feet above sea level, this swampy area is consistently 5 to 10 degrees cooler then the valleys of the township, earning it the nickname of Jefferson's ice box. And the evidence for that nickname remains as here is the last of the township's ice as spring approaches. (PHOTO - ANTHONY LAWSON)
