Caption: 108567 -- Paterson, New Jersey -- February 25, 2013 --- Construction has begun on a building that will house grandparents and the grandchildren they are raising. The building is on the corner of Elm St and Cianci St next to St. Michaels Church.
Bob Guarasci of NJCDC emailed me this information:
This is the future site of NJCDC's Elm
Street Apartments, which will have 20 units. The building will have an intergenerational theme as units will be for youth leaving the foster care system as well as grandparents raising grandchildren. Youth will
help the grandparents and the grandparents will serve as mentors to the youth. It is a $5 million project with funding coming from the state's Housing and Mortgage Financing Agency (HMFA), the City of Paterson, and
the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York. This building is also part of NJCDC's efforts to revitalize the Great Falls Historic District. -- CHRIS PEDOTA / THE RECORD
