A small fire was quickly extinguished the afternoon of Feb. 20 in Bloomfield.
The fire occurred in a first floor home of a four-story apartment building at 9 Dodd St., at the corner of John F. Kennedy Drive North.

This year's honorees were Michael Carter, Robert Fetterly Jr., and James Lynch, who recently passed away and was honored posthumously.

An injury to Bloomfield's Nate Garcia prevent him from advancing to the NJSIAA State Tournament in A.C. He lost the third place match to North Bergen's Manny Dominguez by injury default. In the quarterfinals, Garcia defeated Dominguez in a 7-3 decision.

BROOKDALE SCHOOL DEDICATES NEW PLAYGROUND: From left-Brookdale School 2nd graders William Jones, Andrew LoMonte, Owen Bogart, Nick Polidoro,  Alexander Polidoro, Tyler Harvey, Jonathan Wengler, and Jake Sullivan join Principal Joseph Fleres in cutting the ribbon at the new Brookdale School Playground  on Friday, March 15. Brookdale was the only school in Bloomfield that did not have a playground, and after years of fundraising by the Home and School Association, the playground finally became a reality. Home Depot and ShopRite donated generously to the playground fund, along with numerous community businesses, parents and students.

109438    CheeriosBox  BLOOMFIELD , NJ  3/19/2013 : BROOKDALE SHOPRITE PARTNERS IN CARING RAISES MONEY FOR FOOD BANKS:  Brookdale ShopRite was named one of the top 41 money-raisers in the annual Partners in Caring competition, in which ShopRite stores in 6 states collect money to help fight hunger during September's National Hunger Awareness Month.  This yearŐs contest raised $1.25 million in funds to be donated to regional food banks in the areas ShopRite serves. The top 41stores each picked two employees to appear on a special limited-edition Cheerios box honoring their efforts to feed the hungry.
