Dwellings is a weekly Real Estate feature highlighting an interesting home in North Jersey. The featured home for Sunday 03/02/08 is a European-style escape in New Milford.

A plaque near the front of the Demarest-Bloomer House in New Milford describes the home's history.

The sunken den is one of the oldest rooms in the house and features exits to both the front and rear of the home.

This first-floor bathroom is off the parlor.

The living room and parlor are connected by sliding doors and each contains one of the home's eight fireplaces.

The kitchen in the house features new appliances including two cooling drawers.

The high ceilings in the dining room are standard throughout the house.

The back yard and bird sanctuary fill with lush greens and a rainbow of colors in the summer months.

The second floor of the carriage house overlooks the Hackensack River.

A 20-foot fountain is the centerpiece of the magical back yard.

The entrance leads to a stairway up to the second floor with four bedrooms, including a master suite.

The floors are comprised of wood reclaimed from a ship.

The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
